Cyber Media has become Offensive
Media plays a vital role in creating a well informed society by providing information regarding vivid topics and prevailing issues and it also entertains through the various media channels i.e., Newspapers,Radio,T.V.,Magazines, but in the contemporary scenario the media has become a two-way communication process by inducing the concept of feedback which enables the audience to actively provide their point of view regarding the media content.
The New Media and Convergence has entirely transformed the role of media in the aspect that every citizen has become the journalist by actively contributing to the mnedia content through GPRS enabled handsets and computers with internet facilities,without getting professionally trained for acquiring such journalistic skills.So,this emerging form of journalism i.e., Citizen Journalism has created the active and well conscious society whoch is keen to intrude in the political agenda of the government.
The Citizen Journalism works at two levels,it provides the liberty to the citizens in a democratic nation.so,this emerging form of journalism enables the De-centralisation of power of not only the government but also the traditional media which controls the flow of media content due to numerous external influences.
However,on the other hand,it also proves offensive and defamatory towards the government and top bureaucrats as the Senior Congress Leader Digvijaya Singh has lodged a criminal complaint against the social networking sites i.e., Facebook,Twitter and YouTube for uploading hate messages and offensive content against him.The F.I.R. has been filled against these social media under the Information Technology Act(IT Act) but inspite of such defamatory criticism against a public figure,no severe legal action can be taken against such untamable cyber activities.
Thus,Cyber Media facilitates the citizens to freely express themselves towards the government but on the other hand it can also prove offensive towards the reputation of a public figure as any political act is a joint initative of political leaders not acted in complete isolation.So,the stature of Cyber Media in promoting the democratic freedom is in questionable status.
