FDI : Why this Kolaveri di?
by Meenakshi Chaudhary
Foreign Direct Investment(FDI) in the retail sector has become the burning issue among the parliamentarians and  aam aadmi. The UPA government's decision of 51% FDI in the multi -brand retail has made the MP's  furious  as Uma Bharti, Mayawati,A.K. Antony,Jairam Ramesh strongly opposes the decision by considering it as unfavorable for small dealers, brokers,'mom and pop stores'

The issue has been emerged as a cabinet split as the Commerce minister Anand Sharma,         Finance minister Pranab Mukherjee and Home minister P.Chidambaram are firmly supporting the division by stating that India is allowing only 51% FDI unlike other countries which allow 100% FDI but still the business of 'mom and pop stores' operates effectively and as far as Indian economy
is concerned the global retail giants like Walmart,Tesco, Carrefor  will be allowed to open stores only on cities with the population base of minimum 10 lakhs so that there can be enough scope for everyone's survival.

However, the barbaric arguments by the parliamentarians are frivolous as they are opposing FDI by considering it a threat to the economy instead of weighing it's actual consequences.FDI  will allow 5000 crore investment in Indian retail sector which in turn will open atleast  1 crore employment opportunities in urban and sub-urban areas. The farmers will also get better prices for their agricultural produce. They can store the excess of farm produce and sell it at the better prices in the  close proximity. On the other hand, consumers will also get all the required products at deep discounts. The relaxation in norms for foreign direct investment will benefit not only business but also to farmers and consumers. The opposition of decision in parliament is the major hurdle in the extension of liberalization in the Indian economy.

The opponents should weigh the 'prons and cons ' of the UPA government's decision instead of making frivolous statements. They are expressing only their personal choices by representing the aam aadmi in isolation to their common interests.Today's commoners are well informed and aware
regarding the impact of each and every parliamentary session on their daily lives. No one will desire that the notion of creation of huge employment opportunities, availability of products at deep discounts and less farm produce waste alongwith higher price for agricultural produce will go in  haste due to personalized self-woven notion of some opposing parliamentarians.Government should push this revolutionary move pragmatically for the  upgradation  of Indian retail sector which in turn will boast up the Indian economic scenario.

DU degree is no more a cakewalk!!
soaring cutoffs, strict attendance norms are multiple hurdles to get DU degree
by Meenakshi Chaudhary

Every year lakhs of students aspire to get admission in Delhi University which stands at 133 position in world universities rankings. The university offers courses in medicine, law, commerce, management, engineering, various vocational and academic programmes at undergraduate,post-graduate and doctorate level  which promises to offer a flourishing career.

However, the admission criteria and eligibility norms gets tougher day-by-day as being a central university located in the national capital territory, students from various parts of the country aspire to become DU graduates. This year Sri Ram College of commerce (SRCC) breaks all records by setting it's cutoff to 100% for B.Com(honors) and Eco(honors).so,getting admission in the prestigious college of DU is like a dream come true for every student.

The university has set a benchmark by acquiring number one position in the Indian Universities rankings because of it's standardized curriculum, scholarly and efficient faculties and strict regulations. As the university has shown the doors to 350  students who did not make the minimum 40% attendance marks, such students will be required to take fresh admissions next year by completing with students possessing higher percentage. This is a huge setback for the DU degree aspirants.

so,DU is synonymous to perseverance, punctuality and dedication as the  aspirants can become DU graduates only if they will work hard to get higher scores at school level and then pursue the academics with dedication and punctuality in order to become DU graduates.

Rascals gets third highest opening of the year
The cast of David Dhawan’s film Rascals has a reason to rejoice. The film has garnered the third highest opening for the year, after Salman Khan’s Ready and Bodyguard.

The comic flick, that stars Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgn, Kangna Ranaut, Lisa Haydon and Arjun Rampal, did good business on its

opening day, October 6, and is still doing well at the box office.

The movie has garnered a collection of Rs 8.63 crore on the first day itself, making it the third highest for 2011.

This was despite a limited release and low ticket prices compared to the weekends. Trade pundits say that if the tickets were priced at the regular rates, then the movie could have grossed higher and maybe even crossed Rs 11 crore on the opening day.

Meanwhile, Dhawan is all praise for his lead actor Sanjay Dutt. “Sanjay is like an open book. He doesn’t hide anything. He is the most simple guy I have ever seen. I started my career with him 20 years back as a director and he is still the same. There is no change in him,” says Dhawan, who first worked with him in Taaqatwar in 1989. About Ajay, he says, “He comes across as a very serious person which actually he is not. He is a very easy person.
